The legacy of Gupta Brothers® began in some time in the year 1888 on the auspicious day of Buddha Purnima, when one young man
named Mahadeo Gupta from Sujan ganj a small village near Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh, just married, came to Calcutta to try his luck with the idea of opening a Desi Mithai Shop in the city with 300 Rupees He rented a Small 400 sq.ft. Shop at the ground floor at 52 chetla Road Alipore, and about 400 sq.ft for living on the 1st floor for Rs 5/- and started his Desi Mithai shop without putting any signboard as the Landlord didnt allowed to put one. The shop became popular very fast with the excellent variety of Hing ki Kachori Sabji, Halwa, Jalebi and Samosa.
The time passed and the Bhaiya ji became the father of two sons. Lakshmi Narayan and Ramchandra, the two brothers were of different nature and didnt wanted to be Halwai's for ever. The elder brother Lakshminarayan Gupta had a great urge for electronics while the younger one Ramchandra Gupta was deeply in the practice of Homeopathy Medicine, which gave him lot of fame for rendering voluntary service to the people and in the studies of occult sciences. The two common things among the two Gupta brothers were, first Photography. Where Ramchandra used to shot pictures of the family and others, and the elder brother Laxmi Narayan used to develop and print them in house no wonder, they were miraculous at their time. The second thing common was the inherited Mithai Shop, and a passion to create something. New always

With a very deep & vast knowledge in Homeopathic Ramchandra became very popular among the rich and poor of the Chetla for prescribing accurate medicines and curing chronic diseases successfully, even at the shop he was always found with a box full of Homeopathy medicines and Materia Medica... Which diverted him from his business to a social worker
whereas Lakshminarayan used to look after the shop in the day time and, worked on the dream project, of making his own radio, at night
Time passed ...the family of two developed. Both the brothers got married. Laxminarayan married an young lady Rajjo Devi from the native place Sujanganj and unfortunately had no issue, Ramchandra Married Smt. Taramani Devi of Jaunpur UP and have a family of five Sons and two Daughters.
The shop was gaining popularity day by day and established as one of the most popular sweet shops of Alipore.
Today we have become the leading manufacturers of Chena decorative sweets Calcutta.

1974: A new concept and Revolution started with the invention of the new sweet dish 'Abar Khabo'
Abar Khabo literally means ONCE MORE in English. It is formed of two Bengali words ABAR = AGAIN and KHABO = Eat
It was a good result of our constant research and an urge to create some thing new always
Calcutta is famous for Rossogolla, Misti Doi and Sandesh, and we are into the manufacturing all these but there were lot of people specially who were not Bengalis and always wanted a taste of North into the sweets of east just to fulfill this particular need a combination of Rossogolla, Sandesh and Malai along with some secret recipe was experimented, developed and presented to the customers.
It was our general practice to sample our latest products free to our customers, so when this new recipe was offered to different customers, the reaction was great. Everybody from aged 6-60 liked it no matter he was a Bengali or Marwari or any caste any country, people just loved it and when we asked them for there remarks they only said
ONCE MORE. Ureka! Here comes the idea for the new name "ABAR KHABO"
Once more please
This particular product gave us lot of name and fame it become the most popular sweet dish of Calcutta after Rossogolla. All the sweets shop started copying it, you go to any good sweet shop in Calcutta and ask for Abar Khabo. They will give you, may be you wont say ONCE MORE after eating it
because the secret of our recipe is still a secret
